چکیده
Abstract Flash sintering (FS) is a novel field-assisted technology, where the ceramic heated internally by Joule effect. While FS promises tremendous reduction of firing time and furnace temperature, it has been applied only at laboratory scale to date. The key limitation scaling up technique industrial manufacturing level intrinsic difficulty managing heat generation obtaining homogenous microstructures in components interest. Heterogeneous regions primarily originate from different types thermal gradients that develop during FS; therefore, management crucial achieve uniformity. In this article, we discuss advantages controlling microstructural homogeneity ceramics FS, technical routes this. origin formation mechanisms upon flash are outlined. Possible approaches reduce identified. opportunities challenges scale-up discussed both scientific perspectives.

Thermal runaway, flash sintering and asymmetrical microstructural development of ZnO and ZnO–Bi2O3 under direct currents
DC flash sintering of both pure and 0.5 mol.% Bi2O3-doped ZnO at a relatively high activating field of 300 V/cm has been investigated. It is demonstrated that even high-purity ZnO single crystals can “flash” at 870 C. In comparison, flash sintering occurs at a substantially lower onset temperature of 550 C in ZnO powder specimens, indicating the important roles of surfaces and/or grain boundari...

The results of a study of ultra-rapid (flash) sintering of oxide ceramic materials under microwave heating with high absorbed power per unit volume of material (10-500 W/cm³) are presented. Ceramic samples of various compositions-Al₂O₃; Y₂O₃; MgAl₂O₄; and Yb(LaO)₂O₃-were sintered using a 24 GHz gyrotron system to a density above 0.98-0.99 of the theoretical value in 0.5-5 min without isothermal...

Sintering with low frequency rf power (-50 M H z ) is a new technique with unique capabilities that has been used to sinter a variety of ceramic materials, including zirconia-toughened alumina, alumina, silicon carbide, and boron carbide. Processing with low frequencies offers many advantages compared to processing with conventional microwave frequencies (915 MHz and 2.45 GHz). Because of the l...

For more than one decade layer manufacturing technologies assist the development of new products. Due to a layer-wise build-up of a three-dimensional geometry, nearly every complex design is producible in a short period of time. Selective Laser Sintering is a powderbased technique to produce plastic prototypes (Rapid Prototyping) or metal mould inserts (Rapid Tooling). The laser sintering of ce...
متن کاملMicrowave Sintering of Thermistor Ceramics
Microwave sintering is a new sintering technology developed in the middle to late period of the 1980’s, which is characterized by fast densification for ceramic materials[1]. In recent years, microwave heating has been well employed in the field of sintering and joining of ceramics as a result of its advantages against conventional methods. These ceramic materials include oxides, mixed oxides, ...
