Properties and mechanism of ionic liquid/silicone oil based magnetorheological fluids

A magnetorheological fluid (MRF) is a smart composite suspension composed of nonmagnetic liquid and soft magnetic particles. Carrier fluids can considerably influence the performance MRFs; therefore, to investigate effect carrier on MRFs, an SO/IL-MRF was prepared by mixing ionic (IL) with silicone oil (SO) in this study. Three types MRF samples were for experiments (pure SO, pure IL, SO/IL). According experimental results, has better sedimentation stability than those based SO IL. Further, three methods used determine shear yield stresses MRFs. The achieved higher stress other two because network structure formed between fragments molecular chains SO/IL-MRF. This increases movement resistance particles fluid, it unlike mechanism IL-enhanced MRF. work provides new ideas improving performance.
