Protective effects of lycopene against adenine-induced chronic renal failure in rats

Objectives: Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a public health concern in both developed and developing countries. Therefore, there still need to look for secure successful agents that can either minimise or prevent CRF from advancing end-stage disorder. This study aimed assess the effect of lycopene on adenine-induced rat. Materials Methods: Animals were divided into five groups ( n = 6). Normal control group received normal vehicle, disease orally adenine (50 mg/kg/day), L 100 (100 mg/kg/day) + 200 (200 400 (400 30 days. Results: Compared group, had decreased bodyweight, food intake also increased relative kidney weight urine output. Adenine-treated significantly blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, uric acid, magnesium reduced calcium, creatinine nitrogen. Besides, gave positive test C-reactive protein proteinuria. Histopathologically, caused significant inflammatory changes tissues compared with group. When administered concomitantly adenine, alleviated all measured physiological, biochemical histological changes. Conclusion: We concluded this analysis oral administration could potentially mitigate adverse might be due their antioxidant free radical scavenging properties.
