چکیده

Abstract Induction of maternofetal inflammation for two wk at 0.7 gestation was previously shown to cause fetal intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) in sheep. However, the impact sustained during peak placental development and mid-gestation has not been explored. Therefore, our objective determine effects this period on subsequent growth. Pregnant ewes were injected every 3rd day from 50th 65th d (dGA; term=150 dGA) with saline (control; n=10) or bacterial lipopolysaccharide endotoxin induce IUGR (MI-IUGR; n=12). Fetuses surgically catheterized dGA 118 collect daily blood samples necropsied 125 assess metrics. From 120 125, O2, CO2, HCO3 content less (P < 0.05) MI-IUGR fetuses than controls, but glucose, lactate, pH did differ. Circulating granulocytes platelets greater red cells circulating monocytes, lymphocytes, total leukocytes At necropsy, 23% lighter 0.05), hindlimbs 25% smaller cannon bones 6% shorter compared controls. also had reduced semitendinosus, flexor digitorum superficialis, longissimus dorsi masses Heart, liver, brain differ between control fetuses, brain/bodyweight heart/bodyweight fetuses. We conclude that led hypoxemia (but hypoglycemia), which impaired muscle caused asymmetrical body composition near term. This reflects phenotype other models indicates least partial insufficiency.

Doppler assessment of the fetus with intrauterine growth restriction.

OBJECTIVE We sought to provide evidence-based guidelines for utilization of Doppler studies for fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). METHODS Relevant documents were identified using PubMed (US National Library of Medicine, 1983 through 2011) publications, written in English, which describe the peripartum outcomes of IUGR according to Doppler assessment of umbilical arterial, m...

Comparison of Maternal Serum and Umbilical Cord Blood Leptin Level in IUGR Neonates

Background: Gestational weight gain is an impressive factor in the fetal outcome. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is one of the most important problems during fetal period that may lead to many perinatal and long-term complications and growing neonatal morbidities and mortalities. The aim of the study was to ascertain the relationship between umbilical cord blood leptin concentration and...

Increased Hepatic Glucose Production in Fetal Sheep With Intrauterine Growth Restriction Is Not Suppressed by Insulin

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) increases the risk for metabolic disease and diabetes, although the developmental origins of this remain unclear. We measured glucose metabolism during basal and insulin clamp periods in a fetal sheep model of placental insufficiency and IUGR. Compared with control fetuses (CON), fetuses with IUGR had increased basal glucose production rates and hepatic PE...
