QDA-System: A Cloud-Based System for Monitoring Water Quality in Brazilian Hydroelectric Reservoirs from Space

This article presents the QDA-System (Sistema Qualidade da Água, from Portuguese), a system developed to monitor quality of surface waters in Brazilian hydroelectric reservoirs using satellite images and cloud computing services. The development requirements considered its use for operational monitoring purposes, with all processing steps automated, user-friendly interface access query data generated automatically by system. A pilot application was customized implemented Foz do Chapecó reservoir located southern Brazil. For application, estimate nine water parameters,: five were estimated directly Sentinel-2 multispectral four indirectly. We expect that near future can be replicated other reservoirs, bringing benefits cost reduction related monitoring, not only sector generation but sectors also need similar such as sanitation aquaculture production.
