On Second Order Hamiltonian Systems
The aim of the paper is to announce some recent results concerning Hamiltonian theory. The case of second order Euler–Lagrange form non-affine in the second derivatives is studied. Its related second order Hamiltonian systems and geometrical correspondence between solutions of Hamilton and Euler–Lagrange equations are found.
متن کاملOrigin of Jahn-Teller distortion and orbital order in LaMnO3.
The origin of the cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion and orbital order in LaMnO3 is central to the physics of the manganites. The question is complicated by the simultaneous presence of tetragonal and GdFeO3-type distortions and the strong Hund's rule coupling between e{g} and t{2g} electrons. To clarify the situation we calculate the transition temperature for the Kugel-Khomskii superexchange ...
متن کاملJahn-Teller induced nematic orbital order in tetragonal Sr2VO4
Using high resolution x-ray diffraction (XRD) on high purity powders, we resolved the structure and ab symmetry of the intriguing compound Sr2VO4 from room temperature down to 20 K to an unprecedented level of accuracy. Upon cooling, this set of data unambiguously reveals a second-order phase transition lowering the symmetry from tetragonal to orthorhombic at a temperature Tc2 = 136 K. The obse...
متن کاملBounded Higher-order Unification using Regular Terms
We present a procedure for the bounded unification of higher-order terms [24]. The procedure extends G. P. Huet’s pre-unification procedure [11] with rules for the generation and folding of regular terms. The concise form of the procedure allows the reuse of the pre-unification correctness proof. Furthermore, the regular terms can be restricted in order to get a decidable unifiability problem. ...
متن کاملImproved screw theory using second order terms
z The local displacement of an object is very useful for deciding grasp stability, generating trajectories, recognizing assembly tasks, and so on. To calculate this displacement, the screw theory is employed. It is equivalent to the first order Taylor expansion of the displacement. The screw theory is very convenient, because the displacement is formulated as simultaneous linear inequalities, a...
