Quantifying the risk of non‐native conifer establishment across heterogeneous landscapes

چکیده
Pines (genus Pinus) are cultivated extensively for forestry purposes, particularly in regions that outside the genus' native range. The most common species also typically those likely to escape cultivation and spread rapidly, thus pines constitute a substantial weed problem many regions. However, there is limited knowledge of factors underlying from plantations. Assessments across heterogeneous landscapes required provide rigorous data support management tools policies aiming protect vulnerable ecosystems pine invasions. We examined Pinus radiata plantations over ~9,000 km2 landscape on Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. used ground-based surveys set viewpoints determine tree locations, coupled with geographical information system (GIS) viewsheds define area surveyed. boosted regression trees build habitat model P. establishment Peninsula. surveyed an approximately 107 km2, recording 470 naturally established individuals. 15 صفحه اولQuantifying Nonnative Interactions in the Protein-Folding Free-Energy Landscape.
Protein folding is a central problem in biological physics. Energetic roughness is an important aspect that controls protein-folding stability and kinetics. The roughness is associated with conflicting interactions in the protein and is also known as frustration. Recent studies indicate that an addition of a small amount of energetic frustration may enhance folding speed for certain proteins. I...

the speech act of disagreement has been one of the speech acts that has received the least attention in the field of pragmatics. this study investigates the ways power relations, social distance, formality of the context, gender, and language proficiency (for efl learners) influence disagreement and politeness strategies. the participants of the study were 200 male and female native persian s...

15 صفحه اولA Hierarchical Model for Quantifying Forest Variables Over Large Heterogeneous Landscapes With Uncertain Forest Areas.
We are interested in predicting one or more continuous forest variables (e.g., biomass, volume, age) at a fine resolution (e.g., pixel level) across a specified domain. Given a definition of forest/nonforest, this prediction is typically a two-step process. The first step predicts which locations are forested. The second step predicts the value of the variable for only those forested locations....
