Quantum Bayesian Inference in Quasiprobability Representations

چکیده

Bayes' rule plays a crucial piece of logical inference in information and physical sciences alike. Its extension into the quantum regime has been object several recent works. These versions have expressed language Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we derive expression Petz recovery map within any quasiprobability representation, with explicit formulas for two canonical choices normal representations (which include Discrete Wigner representations) based on symmetric, informationally complete positive operator-valued measures (SIC-POVMs). By using same mathematical syntax (quasi-)stochastic matrices acting vectors, core difference between classical theory is found manipulation reference prior rather than representation channel.

Priors in quantum Bayesian inference

In quantum Bayesian inference problems, any conclusions drawn from a finite number of measurements depend not only on the outcomes of the measurements but also on a prior. Here we show that, in general, the prior remains important even in the limit of an infinite number of measurements. We illustrate this point with several examples where two priors lead to very different conclusions given the ...

Quantum Inference on Bayesian Networks

Performing exact inference on Bayesian networks is known to be #P-hard. Typically approximate inference techniques are used instead to sample from the distribution on query variables given the values e of evidence variables. Classically, a single unbiased sample is obtained from a Bayesian network on n variables with at most m parents per node in time O(nmP (e)−1), depending critically on P (e)...

Quantum Theory and the Bayesian Inference Problems

Many physicists take it for granted that their theories can be either refuted or verified by comparison with experimental data. In order to evaluate such data, however, one must employ statistical estimation and inference methods which, unfortunately, always involve an ad hoc proposition. The nature of the latter depends upon the statistical method adopted; in the Bayesian approach, for example...

Comparison of Quantum and Bayesian Inference Models

The mathematical principles of quantum theory provide a general foundation for assigning probabilities to events. This paper examines the application of these principles to the probabilistic inference problem in which hypotheses are evaluated on the basis of a sequence of evidence (observations). The probabilistic inference problem is usually addressed using Bayesian updating rules. Here we der...

Picturing classical and quantum Bayesian inference

We introduce a graphical framework for Bayesian inference that is sufficiently general to accommodate not just the standard case but also recent proposals for a theory of quantum Bayesian inference wherein one considers mixed quantum states rather than probability distributions as representative of degrees of belief. The diagrammatic framework is stated in the graphical language of symmetric mo...
