Rapid method of microbial susceptibility testing.
A rapid method of microbial susceptibility testing is described. Bacterial growth is measured by determining the incorporation of (14)C-tryptophan into cellular protein in the presence of antimicrobial drugs.
متن کاملProgress on the development of rapid methods for antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Antimicrobial susceptibility testing is essential for guiding the treatment of many types of bacterial infections, especially in the current context of rising rates of antibiotic resistance. The most commonly employed methods rely on the detection of phenotypic resistance by measuring bacterial growth in the presence of the antibiotic being tested. Although these methods are highly sensitive fo...

Resistance to rifampin (rifampicin), isoniazid, and streptomycin of 69 Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates was analyzed by an in-house method based on mycobacteriophage D29 and a colorimetric micromethod. Both methods showed sensitivity and specificity values ranging from 93% to 100%. These simple methods offer an option for drug resistance assessment of M. tuberculosis.

A study was carried out to compare the performance of a commercial method (MGIT) and four inexpensive drug susceptibility methods: nitrate reductase assay (NRA), microscopic observation drug susceptibility (MODS) assay, MTT test, and broth microdilution method (BMM). A total of 64 clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis were studied. The Lowenstein-Jensen proportion method (PM) was used...
متن کاملRapid diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and drug susceptibility testing.
CONTEXT The global control of tuberculosis remains a challenge from the standpoint of diagnosis, detection of drug resistance, and treatment. This is an area of special concern to the health of women and children, particularly in regions of the world with high infant mortality rates and where women have limited access to health care. OBJECTIVE Because treatment can only be initiated when infe...
