Moving average stochastic volatility models with application to inflation forecast
We introduce a new class of models that has both stochastic volatility and moving average errors, where the conditional mean has a state space representation. Having a moving average component, however, means that the errors in the measurement equation are no longer serially independent, and estimation becomes more difficult. We develop a posterior simulator that builds upon recent advances in ...
متن کاملStochastic Volatility Models with Transaction Time Risk
We provide a structural approach to disentangle Granger versus instantaneous causality effects from transaction durations to transaction prices. So far, in the literature, instantaneous causality effects have either been excluded or cannot be identified separately from Granger type causality effects. By giving explicit moment conditions for observed returns over (random) transaction duration in...
متن کاملReal-Time Density Forecasts from BVARs with Stochastic Volatility
Central banks and other forecasters are increasingly interested in various aspects of density forecasts. However, recent sharp changes in macroeconomic volatility – such as the Great Moderation and the more recent sharp rise in volatility associated with greater variation in energy prices and the deep global recession – pose significant challenges to density forecasting. Accordingly, this paper...
متن کاملComplete Models with Stochastic Volatility
The paper proposes an original class of models for the continuous time price process of a nancial security with non-constant volatility. The idea is to deene instantaneous volatility in terms of exponentially-weighted moments of historic log-price. The instantaneous volatility is therefore driven by the same stochastic factors as the price process, so that unlike many other models of non-consta...
متن کاملOn the short-time behavior of the implied volatility for jump-diffusion models with stochastic volatility
In this paper we use Malliavin calculus techniques to obtain an expression for the short-time behavior of the at-the-money implied volatility skew for a generalization of the Bates model, where the volatility does not need to be a diffusion or a Markov process, as the examples in Sect. 7 show. This expression depends on the derivative of the volatility in the sense of Malliavin calculus.
