Recent progress for hydrogen production from ammonia and hydrous hydrazine decomposition: A review on heterogeneous catalysts

چکیده

In response to the growing trend of greenhouse gas emissions from production and use conventional fuels, COx free hydrogen generation is introduced as an alternative efficient energy carrier. Due hydrogen’s storage challenges, more be produced on-site by other chemical compounds for fuel cell applications. This work outlines (H2) ammonia (NH3) hydrous hydrazine (N2H4·H2O) catalytic decomposition. Both substances are giving nitrogen (N2) a by-product, which not toxic. Moreover, heterogeneous catalysts that were studied through years presented. Lastly, reactoristic view decomposition provided with different reactors such membrane (CMRs), fixed-bed (FBRs) micro-reactors (MRs) evaluation their performance.

Rhodium nanoparticles (NPs) effectively catalyze the decomposition of hydrous hydrazine to produce hydrogen under ambient reaction conditions. Rh(0) NPs with a particle size of approximately 5 nm prepared in the presence of hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide show higher catalytic activity.
