Recovering ammonium by treated and untreated zeolitic mixtures: A comprehensive experimental and modelling study

The recovery of ammonium (NH4+) from aqueous solutions by zeolite is attractive. In this study, the physical-chemistry NH4+ adsorption process solution two zeolitic mixtures, either treated or not with NaCl, was assessed. Results suggested that mixture richer in mordenite and high specific surface area adsorbed more than one clinoptilolite heulandite showing a lower area. NaCl treatment increased amount mixtures. higher mixtures explained low/high density water model accounting for cation exchange among kosmotropic systems: Na-enriched NH4+-enriched solution. kinetics were best approximated bimodal pseudo-first-order model. sorption kinetic constants, k1 k2 related to (mediated k1) ion k2) processes. fitting data Langmuir-Sips number active sites only large mordenite.
