Recruitment-driven fish production in two regions where fish biomass has drastically declined

چکیده
Abstract Catches have remained relatively high in the Gulf of Thailand and Bohai Sea, China, despite severe biomass declines (around 95%) evidenced by fishery-independent surveys. Such production at very low stock sizes is not predicted simple-surplus theory, but can be explained age-structured models that predict recruitment rates even when per recruit (BPR) has been drastically reduced. Recruitment reconstructed estimating changes over time BPR, for alternative assumptions about survey catchability, growth, mortality rates. These reconstructions indicate likely decreases due to fishing rates, imply total stable time, with catch consisting largely new recruits making up most biomass. considerations may apply numerous areas east southeast Asia where coastal trawlers used produce animal feeds, notably aquaculture.

Estimation of Fish Biomass Using Environmental DNA
Environmental DNA (eDNA) from aquatic vertebrates has recently been used to estimate the presence of a species. We hypothesized that fish release DNA into the water at a rate commensurate with their biomass. Thus, the concentration of eDNA of a target species may be used to estimate the species biomass. We developed an eDNA method to estimate the biomass of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) usin...

Objective: Sufficient intakes of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) via breast milk are required for optimizing visual and neural development at early stages of life. Little or no information is available on DHA intakes and levels found in breast milk in Iranian women and surrounding regions. In this study we measure the DHA in the breast milk of lactating Iranian women from low and high – fish-eating ...
متن کاملFish mutant, where is thy phenotype?
The field of genetics emerged as a study of the inheritance of desirable or otherwise interesting traits. Mutations were characterized as recessive or dominant, assigned to complementation groups, mapped, and finally, the affected genes were identified. By default, recessive mutations could only be isolated in genes that played an important role in the biological process of interest, be it pea ...
متن کاملExperimenting with Fish has some Advantages
As I sat through the morning session of the Implications of Behavioral Economics for Economic Policy I was struck by the interesting presentations as well as the insightful spectator remarks. One particularly astute gentlemen sitting directly at my side made several penetrating comments. One comment related to how one should use experimental methods in economics. He noted that there are distinc...
متن کاملOne Fish, Two Fish, Butterfish, Trumpeter: Recognizing Fish in Underwater Video
This paper presents a deformable template object recognition method for classifying fish species in underwater video. This method can be a component of a system that automatically identifies fish by species, improving upon previous works which only detect and track fish and those that rely on significant inter-species shape variations or special equipment. Our method works with video shot by a ...
