Re?Entrant Microstructures for Robust Liquid Repellent Surfaces

چکیده

Superhydrophobic surfaces have many interesting applications because of their self-cleaning, waterproof, anti-biofouling, anti-corrosion, and low-adhesion properties. Accordingly, numerous with hierarchical micro/nanostructures are designed engineered to achieve superhydrophobicity. However, these two major problems. First, they lose superhydrophobic properties over time, primarily environmental conditions such as vibration, external pressure, evaporation, pollution. Second, most fail repel all types liquids, especially those low surface tensions. To address this bottleneck, microstructures re-entrant curvature emerged, demonstrating excellent liquid-repellent abilities robustness. Additionally, significant in designing unidirectional wetting for passive liquid handling. review systematically summarizes the design fabrication strategies microstructures. The emphasis is given wettability studies other applications, self-transporting. This paper also highlights potential remaining technical challenges fabricating structures. Finally, study concluded by providing future directions promising field.

Fluorine-free, liquid-repellent surfaces made from ionic liquid-infused nanostructured silicon

ABSTRACT Liquid-repellent surfaces based on slippery liquid-infused porous substrates (SLIPS) were prepared from porous, nanostructured silicon surfaces with different surface functionalization, infused with the polar ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methylsulfate ([C2mim]MeSO4). Contrary to nonpolar SLIPS based on perfluorinated substrates and infusion liquids, [C2mim]MeSO4 forms stabl...

Robust liquid-infused surfaces through patterned wettability.

Liquid-infused surfaces display advantageous properties that are normally associated with conventional gas-cushioned superhydrophobic surfaces. However, the surfaces can lose their novel properties if the infused liquid drains from the surface. We explore how drainage due to gravity or due to an external flow can be prevented through the use of chemical patterning. A small area of the overall s...

Assessing the accuracy of contact angle measurements for sessile drops on liquid-repellent surfaces.

Gravity-induced sagging can amplify variations in goniometric measurements of the contact angles of sessile drops on super-liquid-repellent surfaces. The very large value of the effective contact angle leads to increased optical noise in the drop profile near the solid-liquid free surface and the progressive failure of simple geometric approximations. We demonstrate a systematic approach to det...

Reentrant ferroelectricity in liquid crystals.

The ferroelectric (Sm C*)-antiferroelectric (Sm C*A)-reentrant ferroelectric (re Sm C*) phase temperature sequence was observed for systems with competing synclinic-anticlinic interactions. The basic properties of this system are as follows: (i) the Sm C* phase is metastable in the temperature range of the Sm C*A; (ii) the helix handedness inverts at both Sm C*-Sm C*A and Sm C*A-re-Sm C* phase ...
