On the Regularity of Global Attractors
This note is focused on a novel technique in order to establish the boundedness in more regular spaces for global attractors of dissipative dynamical systems, without appealing to uniform-in-time estimates. As an application of the abstract result, the semigroup generated by the strongly damped wave equation utt −∆ut −∆u + φ(u) = f with critical nonlinearity is considered, whose attractor is sh...
متن کاملGlobal Attractors for Damped Semilinear Wave Equations
The existence of a global attractor in the natural energy space is proved for the semilinear wave equation utt + βut − ∆u + f(u) = 0 on a bounded domain Ω ⊂ R with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The nonlinear term f is supposed to satisfy an exponential growth condition for n = 2, and for n ≥ 3 the growth condition |f(u)| ≤ c0(|u|γ + 1), where 1 ≤ γ ≤ n n−2 . No Lipschitz condition on f is assu...
متن کاملGlobal Existence and Energy Decay Rates for a Kirchhoff-Type Wave Equation with Nonlinear Dissipation
The first objective of this paper is to prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions for a Kirchhoff-type wave equation with nonlinear dissipation of the form Ku'' + M(|A (1/2) u|(2))Au + g(u') = 0 under suitable assumptions on K, A, M(·), and g(·). Next, we derive decay estimates of the energy under some growth conditions on the nonlinear dissipation g. Lastly, numerical simulations ...

متن کاملGlobal Regularity for a Logarithmically Supercritical Defocusing Nonlinear Wave Equation for Spherically Symmetric Data
We establish global regularity for the logarithmically energy-supercritical wave equation 2u = u log(2 + u) in three spatial dimensions for spherically symmetric initial data, by modifying an argument of Ginibre, Soffer and Velo [3] for the energy-critical equation. This example demonstrates that critical regularity arguments can penetrate very slightly into the supercritical regime.
