Event shapes in ee annihilation and deep inelastic scattering

This article reviews the status of event-shape studies in ee annihilation and DIS. It includes discussions of perturbative calculations, of various approaches to modelling hadronisation and of comparisons to data.

Deep Inelastic Scattering

Recent deep inelastic results from the H1 collaboration are presented. The topics covered include inclusive diffractive physics, the determination of αS using the event shapes, the study of the hadronic final state at low x with single particles and with jets, the structure function measurements in particular F p 2 at low Q and the high Q physics both in neutral and charged current.

Deep Inelastic Scattering, Diffraction

These lectures include an introduction to the partonic description of the proton, the photon and the ‘colour singlet’, as seen in inclusive and semi-inclusive DIS, in e+e− collisions, and in diffractive processes, respectively. Their formal treatment using structure, fragmentation, and fracture functions is outlined giving an insight into the perturbative QCD framework for these functions. Exam...

however, the same problem done with hard-pion techniques did require a cutoff. " One possible physical explanation for the cutoff is given in the vector-dominance model, which says that the strong-interaction vertex (of the vector meson connecting to the hadron line) has an unknown form factor associated with it. Even though the concept of a cutoff (or effective cutoff A) is accepted, any deriv...
