Relation between Quiescence and Outbursting Properties of GX 339-4

چکیده
Abstract Galactic black hole candidate GX 339-4 underwent several outbursting phases in the past two and a half decades at irregular intervals of 2–3 years. The nature these outbursts terms duration, number peaks, maximum peak intensity, so on varies. We present possible physical reason behind variation outbursts. From point view, if supply matter from companion is roughly constant, total energy released an outburst expected to be proportional quiescent period prior when accumulated. use archival data RXTE/ASM 1996 January 2011 June MAXI/GSC 2009 August 2020 July. Five initial between 1997 were observed by ASM showed good linear relation accumulation amount each outburst, but after 2013 behaved quite differently. 2013, 2017–2018, 2018–2019 short duration incomplete or “failed” nature. suggest that accumulated during periods was not cleared through accretion due lack viscosity. leftover very next Our study thus sheds light long-term dynamics sources.

MOST Radio Monitoring of GX 339 − 4
The Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST) has been monitoring the candidate Galactic black hole binary system GX339−4 at 843 MHz since 1994 April. We present the results of this program up to 1997 February and show a possible correlation between radio and X-ray light curves.
متن کاملOSSE Observations of GX 339 4
The Oriented Scintillation Spectrometer Experiment on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory observed the Galactic black hole candidate GX 339?4 as a target of opportunity in 1991 September, in response to the outburst reported by BATSE. We report here on energy spectra in the 50 keV to 10 MeV range obtained by OSSE. The source was detected from 50 to 400 keV at a level relative to the Crab nebula o...
متن کاملThe Off State of GX 339 – 4
We report BeppoSAX and optical observations of the black hole candidate GX339– 4 during its X-ray ‘off’ state in 1999. The broad-band (0.8–50 keV) X-ray emission can be fitted by a single power law with spectral index, α ∼ 1.6. The observed luminosity is 6.6 × 10 erg s in the 0.5–10 keV band, which is at the higher end of the flux distribution of black hole soft X-ray transients in quiescence, ...
متن کاملThe Distance and Interstellar Sight Line to Gx 339 – 4
The distance to the black hole binary GX 339–4 remains a topic of debate. We examine high-resolution optical spectra of the Na D lines resolving the velocity structure along the line of sight. We find this to be complex, with at least nine components, mostly blue-shifted, spanning a velocity range of nearly 200 km s −1. The presence of components with a large blue-shift rules out a nearby locat...
متن کاملOptical Spectroscopy of GX 339 - 4 - Paper I : Orbital Modulation
Optical spectroscopic observations of GX 339-4 were carried out between 1998 May (X-ray high state) and 1999 May (X-ray low state) over 7 epochs. The equivalent width of Hα increased during the high state then decreased during the low state. The equivalent width of HeII λ4686 decreased over both states. The full-width half-maximum of Hα, Hβ, HeII λ4686 and the Bowen blend increased from 1998 to...
