Replacing Induction Motors without Defined Efficiency Class by IE Class: Example of Energy, Economic, and Environmental Evaluation in 1.5 kW—IE3 Motors

This paper shows the results obtained from study on variables that have greatest influence decision to replace three-phase induction motors, without a defined efficiency class and installed in industrial applications, with IE3 motors. The work has been carried out motors nominal power of 1.5 kW due availability laboratory tests allowed us accurately quantify selected variables. According IEC 60034-30, between 0.75 4 is potential for energy savings electric within sector. made it possible assess different operating conditions motor: direct supply grid, electronic using scalar control, torque control. focused three aspects: evaluation, assessing potential; economic based indicators such as Payback Period Net Present Value; environmental assessment, quantifying impact proposed by Methodology Ecodesign Energy-related Products (MEErP). A sensitivity analysis quantify, through ratios, points those directly analyzed article.
