Resting metabolic rate in healthy Singaporeans: Performance of the Harris-Benedict equation and a new predictive model

چکیده
Background Prediction equations for resting metabolic rate (RMR) are valuable in managing patients’ weight; however, no accurate equation exists Singaporeans. Objective To develop and cross-validate a predictive regression RMR Singaporeans, using indirect calorimetry as the reference method. Methods 104 healthy Singaporeans (34.3 ± 12.2 years) participated, comprising 34 men 70 women. Anthropometric measurements demographics information were obtained from participants. was measured via (TrueOne 2400 system). Stepwise analysis used to most parsimonious equation. Performance of evaluated ordinary least products (OLP) Bland–Altman analysis, whilst internal cross-validation performed by use predicted residual sum squares (PRESS) compare new with existing ones, performance Harris-Benedict also evaluated. Results The best takes form RMR(kcal) = 918 + 16.5(weight)-135.7(gender) - 1152(Waist-to-height-ratio) +0.014(International Physical Activity Questionnaire Score), where gender 1 (female) or 0 (male). OLP revealed systematic bias showed that its total (systematic random) error 212 kcal. Internal model validation PRESS method minimal reduction accuracy. In contrast, significant pattern over-prediction (y-intercept −280 kcal; 95%CI, −100 −461 kcal). Conclusions Our outperformed accurately predicting Comprising easily anthropometric self-reported measures, we envisage potential relevance clinical epidemiological settings.

Relation between Healthy Eating Index and Resting Metabolic Rate
Background and Objectives: Previouse studies demonstrated inverse association between healthy eating index and alot of chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease and cancer and mortality. Since there are limited study about relation between healthy eating index and reting metabolic rate. considering the results of some studies about the relation between weight, body composition and blood suge...
متن کاملThe Harris Benedict equation reevaluated: resting energy requirements and the body cell mass.
The Harris Benedict equations (HBE) were derived from indirect calorimetric data obtained in 239 normal subjects. Using these data and additional data published by Benedict, which were obtained from subjects spanning a wider age range (n = 98), the present study evaluated the relationship between measured resting energy expenditure and age, sex, and predicted body cell mass (BCM). When the addi...

متن کاملComparison between resting energy expenditure measured by indirect calorimetry and metabolic rate estimate based on Harris-Benedict equation in septic patients
Background: Providing an adequate caloric intake is essential for improving clinical outcomes, because inadequate nutrition induces several problems. Previous studies have shown that energy expenditure calculated by classical prediction equations, such as the Harris-Benedict equation (HBE), is greater than the measured resting energy expenditure (REE). To compensate for this discrepancy, additi...
