Rethinking Modern Communication from Semantic Coding to Semantic Communication

چکیده
Modern communications are usually designed to pursue a higher bit-level precision and fewer bits while transmitting message. This article rethinks these two major features introduces the concept advantage of semantics that characterizes new kind semantics-aware communication framework, incorporating both semantic encoding problem. After analyzing underlying defects existing techniques, we establish confidence-based distillation mechanism for joint semantics-noise coding (JSNC) problem reinforcement learning (RL)-powered paradigm endows system ability convey instead pursuing bit level accuracy. On top technical contributions, this work provides insight understand how processed represented in system, verifies significant benefits doing so. Targeted on next generation's communication, some critical concerns open challenges such as information overhead, security implementation cost also discussed envisioned.

Towards Universal Semantic Communication
Is is possible for two intelligent beings to communicate meaningfully, without any common language or background? This question has interest on its own, but is especially relevant in the context of modern computational infrastructures where setting up a common protocol between computers is getting to be increasingly burdensome, and where “universal communication protocols” may start to become a...

متن کاملSemantic structure in improvised communication
Recent studies have shown that people, when asked to communicate about simple events in an improvised manner, i.e., using only gesture and no speech, consistently use a sequencing that corresponds with SOV order. We present experimental data showing that SOV is not the only order that emerges, and that intensional events give rise to a different ordering: SVO. We conclude that the semantic prop...
متن کاملSemantic typology and efficient communication
Cross-linguistic work on domains including kinship, color, folk biology, number, and spatial relations has documented the different ways in which languages carve up the world into named categories. Although word meanings vary widely across languages, unrelated languages often have words with similar or identical meanings, and many logically possible meanings are never observed. We review work s...
متن کاملUniversal Semantic Communication II: A Theory of Goal-Oriented Communication
We continue the investigation of the task of meaningful communication among intelligent entities (players, agents) without any prior common language. Our generic thesis is that such communication is feasible provided the goals of the communicating players are verifiable and compatible. In a previous work we gave supporting evidence for one specific goal — where one of the players wished to solv...
