Reverse Pseudohyperkalemia: An Important Clinical Entity in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Hyperkalemia is a potentially lethal electrolyte derangement commonly seen in patients with hematologic neoplasms with or without renal failure. Pseudohyperkalemia and reverse pseudohyperkalemia also can be seen in this patient population and early recognition and diagnosis of these conditions are vital. Here, we report a case of reverse pseudohyperkalemia in a patient with chronic lymphocytic ...

Reverse pseudohyperkalemia in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

A man, age 78 years, with a history of chronic lymphocytic leukemia presented to clinic for evaluation of a cough. On further evaluation, he was noted to have an elevated potassium level. This case report highlights the importance of distinguishing cases of true hyperkalemia from pseudohyperkalemia and reverse pseudohyperkalemia.

Pseudohyperkalemia in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Pseudohyperkalemia occurs occasionally in patients with extreme leukocytosis. Increased white blood cell fragility coupled with mechanical stress is felt to be causal. Serum and plasma potassium levels have been both associated with pseudohyperkalemia. Whole blood potassium determination will usually verify the correct diagnosis. It is important to diagnose this condition early so that patients...

Pseudohyperkalemia - Potassium released from cells due to clotting and centrifugation - a case report

Hyperkalemia is a potentially lethal condition. Pseudohyperkalemia should be always excluded before implementing treatment to prevent inappropriate cause of hypokalemia - equally a potentially lethal condition. Here we present a case report of a 62 year female with chronic myeloproliferative disorder, i.e. essential thrombocythemia. The laboratory test results for potassium concentration were 6...

AIM To investigate the possible effects of thyroid hormones on the lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) serum concentration. METHODS Eleven patients with hyperthyroidism (Grave's disease), 18 patients with hypothyroidism and low Lp(a) (Hashimoto's disease), and 13 patients with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's disease) and elevated Lp(a) were examined before and after thyroid hormone normalization. The measure...
