Review of parameterisation and a novel database (LiionDB) for continuum Li-ion battery models

The Doyle-Fuller-Newman framework is the most popular physics-based continuum-level description of chemical and dynamical internal processes within operating lithium-ion-battery cells. With sufficient flexibility to model a wide range battery designs chemistries, provides an effective balance between detail, needed capture key microscopic mechanisms, simplicity, solve governing equations at relatively modest computational expense. Nevertheless, implementation requires values numerous parameters, whose ranges applicability, estimation, validation pose challenges. This article critical review methods measure or infer parameters for use isothermal DFN framework, discusses their advantages disadvantages, clarifies limitations attached practical application. Accompanying this discussion we provide searchable database, available www.liiondb.com, which aggregates many state functions standard that have been reported in literature.
