Slippery Slope of Triglycerides
For years, the scientific and medical communities have pondered the role of triglycerides in cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality risk. Although several studies have shown a relationship between elevated triglyceride levels and CVD, the degree to which triglycerides are independently associated and whether triglycerides directly cause CVD has been hotly debated. This is in contradistincti...
متن کاملThe slippery slope.
The achievement of adequate and prompt myocardial reperfusion in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the most important determinant of recovery of ventricular function at follow-up. This explains the great attention given to the so-called no-reflow phenomenon, which is associated with extensive myocardial damage and a high prevalence of future cardiac events after AMI. The no-reflow phenomenon...

'Fear' is used scientifically in two ways, which causes confusion: it refers to conscious feelings and to behavioral and physiological responses. متن کاملThe Slippery Slope of Concession
We show that with common knowledge and a common rate of time preference, the potential loser can always avoid wasteful conflict through a time-consistent series of small concessions. We examine how the failure of each of these assumptions may explain why conflicts arise. We also debate which actions may be helpful in such unfortunate circumstances. 1 We would like to thank NSF Grants SES-03-147...
متن کاملThe Basic Slippery Slope Argument
Although studies have yielded a detailed taxonomy of types of slippery slope arguments, they have failed to identify a basic argumentation scheme that applies to all. Therefore, there is no way of telling whether a given argument is a slippery slope argument or not. This paper solves the problem by providing a basic argumentation scheme. The scheme is shown to fit a clear and easily comprehensi...
