Risk assessment of agressive behavior in schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder : a cross-sectional study

Introduction Psychotic disorders have been consistently associated with aggressive behaviors. Psychiatrists are frequently asked to perform assessment regarding potentially patients. Thus, many psychometric instruments can be useful for identifying the risk of violence and thereby offering appropriate treatment these individuals. Objectives The aims this study were assess agressive behavior in inpatients schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder determine its correlates. Methods Using face-to-face interviews, diagnosed disorder, psychiatric department University Hospital Sfax (Tunisia) included cross-sectional, descriptive analytical study, carried out between novembre 2020 octobre 2022. modified overt aggression scale (MOAS) historical clinical management-20 (HCR-20) questionnaire used data acquisition. HCR-20 score 20 was as threshold divide sample violent patients (scoring>20) non-violent (scoring ≤ 20). Results consisted 60 male inpatients. mean age 38.23± 10.37 years. In our sample, 68.3% single, 35% didn’t reach secondary educational level, 16.7% psychoactive substance(s), had prior criminal record, 30% a history suicidal attempt 81.7% previous hospitalization. MOAS 13.08±8.19. total 19.25±5.26. Historical, Clinical Risk Management subscales showed scores 8.33±2.96, 5.62±1.89, 5.28±2.42, respectively. represented 45% sample. items H3, H10, C1, C2, C4 R5 respectively : 1.33±0.79, 1.20±0.77, 1.22±0.88, 0.38±0.71, 1.30±0.64 1.28±0.73. There no statistical difference two groups socio-demographic factors. A attempts significantly more common group (p=0.029). Regarding HCR subscales, H3 (relationship instability) H10 (Prior supervision failure) higher among (p=0.018 0.003 respectively). C1 (lack insight), C2 (negative attitudes) (impulsivity) also (p=0.016, 0.009 0.005 rescpectively). item (stress) management subscale (p=0.003). detected severe agression nonviolent (p=0.031).
