چکیده
Abstract This study develops the theory of risk-averse importance sampling and explains its potential application to forest inventory estimation through use a heuristic simulation. When risk-producing elements landscape are known, strategy can be created that results in fewer samples high-risk areas. Our simulation shows for certain populations, highly effective at reducing both risk field crew members (requiring only 10% plot visits riskiest category) sample variance relative simple random sampling. The method is shown especially helpful when population values interest decreases with increasing risk, reduction mean square error (MSE) 84% 99% these cases. also showed opposite effect on MSE expected increase risk. By safety, should improve frequency accuracy observations, potentially leading even bigger gains estimate precision. We recommend any time hazardous conditions result high number missing observations reasonably accurate characterizations risks developed. Study Implications: During collection data, safety personnel always primary importance, but never has been component design. provides low-risk probability areas interested practitioners. forested area known described functional form. decrease It hypothesized if defined will reduce field, response rates measurements increase, and, turn, lead final estimates. Risk-averse recommended it likely higher level observational success.

Comparison of p300 in risk-seeker and risk-averse people during simple gambling task
Risk preference, the degree of tendency to take risk, has a fundamental role at individual and social health and is divided to risk seeker and risk averse. Therefore, the study of neural corelates of risk preferences is essential at the field of psychology and psychiatry. The current study aimed to examine and compare an ERP component named P300 between subjects with different risk preferences....

Background To identify the prevalence of behavioural (Pre-pregnancy), obstetrical and medical risks of pregnancy in Iranian women. Methods A total of 2993 postpartum women who delivered in 23 randomly selected hospitals of six provinces were enrolled in this nationwide cross-sectional study. A structured questionnaire was completed based on interviewees’ self-reports and medical record data...
متن کاملRisk Averse Inventory Management∗
Traditional inventory models focus on risk neutral decision makers, i.e., characterizing replenishment strategies that maximize expected total profit, or equivalently, minimize expected total cost over a planning horizon. In this paper, we propose a general framework for incorporating risk aversion in multi-period inventory models as well as multi-period models that coordinate inventory and pri...
متن کاملRisk Averse Shape Optimization
Risk-averse optimization has attracted much attention in nite-dimensional stochastic programming. In this paper, we propose a risk-averse approach in the in nite dimensional context of shape optimization. We consider elastic materials under stochastic loading. As measures of risk awareness we investigate the expected excess and the excess probability. The developed numerical algorithm is based ...
متن کاملImportance Sampling for Portfolio Credit Risk
M Carlo simulation is widely used to measure the credit risk in portfolios of loans, corporate bonds, and other instruments subject to possible default. The accurate measurement of credit risk is often a rare-event simulation problem because default probabilities are low for highly rated obligors and because risk management is particularly concerned with rare but significant losses resulting fr...
