Risky Decision Making Due to Goal Conflicts in Firefighting—Debriefing as a Countermeasure to Enhance Safety Behavior

چکیده

Firefighters act within extreme environments, work under threatening conditions and are often exposed to goal conflicts (e.g., self-protection vs. mission objective) during their missions. However, what the consequences of these safety task conflicts, countermeasures could help reduce occurrence? In an online survey, 340 firefighters were asked about risky decision making, debriefings frequency difficulties in teamwork firefighting. Associations between survey variables determined by multivariate regression mediation analyses. Data show that associated with making unsafe acts. Furthermore, fewer as mediated less-frequent (communication, leadership shared mental models). Though limited cross-sectional design our study, results provide evidence debriefing is a valuable tool experienced on missions therefore occurrence conflicting goals. Fewer decrease decisions and, thus, safer working environment for firefighters. Accordingly, it recommended conduct debriefings, increased focus team aspects.

House of Improvement Model to Enhance Prioritisation of Solutions in Decision Making: a Case Study

The decision making on selection of improvement solutions was one of the obstacles hampering the success of process improvement. This paper presents the House of Improvement (HOI) model as a guideline to link decision criteria for the prioritisation of improvement solutions. Three phases in the HOI are applied to facilitate selection and to ensure that suitable and value-added solutions are cho...

Decision making, risky behavior, and alcoholism.

Alcoholism can be described as a disorder characterized by impulsive decision-making processes, wherein potential short-term appetitive outcomes of drinking (e.g., intoxication) are deemed more important than potential long-term aversive consequences of drinking (e.g., drunk-driving arrests). Separate but interrelated neurocognitive pathways to impulsive decision making exist - one reflected by...

Value-based decision-making battery: A Bayesian adaptive approach to assess impulsive and risky behavior.

Using simple mathematical models of choice behavior, we present a Bayesian adaptive algorithm to assess measures of impulsive and risky decision making. Practically, these measures are characterized by discounting rates and are used to classify individuals or population groups, to distinguish unhealthy behavior, and to predict developmental courses. However, a constant demand for improved tools...

Using Emotions to Enhance Decision-Making

We present a novel methodology for decisionmaking by computer agents that leverages a computational concept of emotions. It is believed that emotions help living organisms perform well in complex environments. Can we use them to improve the decision-making performance of computer agents? We explore this possibility by formulating emotions as mathematical operators that serve to update the relat...
