Robust identification and characterization of thin soil layers in cone penetration data by piecewise layer optimization

چکیده
Cone penetration testing (CPT) is a preferred method for characterizing soil profiles evaluating seismic liquefaction triggering potential. However, CPT has limitations in highly stratified because the measured tip resistance (qc) of cone penetrometer influenced by properties soils above and below tip. This results qc values that appear “blurred” at sediment layer boundaries, inhibiting our ability to characterize thinly layered strata are potentially liquefiable. Removing this “blur” been previously posed as continuous optimization problem, but some cases methodology less efficacious than desired. Thus, we propose new approach determine corrected (i.e. would be stratum absent thin-layer effects) from values. numerical algorithm searches with finite number layers which can automatically added or removed needed. provided open-source MATLAB software. It yields when applied computer-simulated calibration chamber data. We compare two versions numerically optimize different functions, one uses logarithm refine fine-scale details, requires longer calculation times yield improved profiles.

Perfectly Matched Layers in the Thin Layer Method by João
Abstract This paper explores the coupling of the Perfectly Matched Layer technique (PML) with the Thin Layer Method (TLM), the combination of which allows making highly efficient and accurate simulations of layered half-spaces of infinite depth subjected to arbitrary dynamic sources anywhere. It is shown that with an appropriate complex stretching of the thickness of the thinlayers, one can ass...

متن کاملFinite element analysis of cone penetration in cohesionless soil
Displacement finite element analysis is performed for a cone-penetration test in cohesionless soils. By modelling finite strain in the soil and large scale sliding at the penetrometer–soil interface, a more realistic penetration process is simulated in which the penetrometer is assumed to be rigid and the soil is assumed to be an elastic-perfect-plastic continuum obeying the Mohr–Coulomb criter...
متن کاملPreparation and Characterization of ZnO Thin Layers with Various Percentages of Gallium Impurities
In this study, thin films of pure ZnO and doped ZnO with different percentages of gallium (0.5, 1, 2 and 4vt. %) on the glass substrates were deposited by using sol-gel method via spin coating technique at 2500 rpm, and all layers were annealed at 200°C for 1h and then Were examined their electrical, optical and structural properties. Concentration of all solution was 0.1M. The results show th...
