Safety, Feasibility, and Efficacy of EMDR Therapy in Adults with PTSD and Mild Intellectual Disability or Borderline Intellectual Functioning and Mental Health Problems: A Multiple Baseline Study

Background Little is known about the efficacy of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in people with mild intellectual disability or borderline functioning (MID-BIF).Aims To explore safety, feasibility, EMDR adults MID-BIF, PTSD, comorbid mental health psycho-social problems.Methods procedures Data were collected from nine participants using a non-concurrent multiple baseline design. PTSD symptoms, level daily life impairment, possible adverse effect measured weekly during baseline, treatment, post-treatment, at three-month follow-up. Depressive general psychopathology, problems assessed once every phase.Outcomes results Participants displayed significant reduction majority no longer met criteria DSM-5 diagnosis after therapy. appeared to be safe, as events reported study time frame. Further, showed decrease depressive well less severe psychopathology following therapy.Conclusion was found feasible, (potentially) efficacious decreasing loss diagnoses, suffering both problems.
