Scientific research in plasmonic metasurfaces has been widely widespread the last years, motivated by recent advances nanofabrication field and increasing demand for high throughput sensing platforms. The electronics, microfluidics, signal processing have enabled complete development of highly integrated devices with broad application potential. However, progress observed from a fabrication point view remarkable, led potential benefits metamaterials can offer sensing: sensor miniaturization, multiplexing opportunities, extreme sensitivity biodetection. Although conventional top-down approaches, i.e., electron-beam lithography, extensively employed to develop biosensing, lithography-free bottom-up strategies based on nano-patterned/sculpted thin-films are candidates surpass limitations lithographic techniques large-scale high-throughput processes 2D 3D over material set.
