Scale?Dependent Contributors to River Profile Geometry

چکیده

A range of complex hydraulic and geomorphic processes shape terrestrial landscapes. It remains unclear how these act to generate observed drainage networks across scales interest. To address this issue, we transform synthetic longitudinal river profiles into the spectral domain with a view interrogating different at which fluvial landscapes are generated. North American characterized by red noise (i.e., power, ? ? k?2, where k is wave number) wavelengths >100 km pink (? k?1) shorter wavelengths. This observation suggests that profile geometries scale-dependent using small-scale observations develop general understanding large-scale landscape evolution not straightforward. At km, appear be controlled smoothly varying patterns regional uplift slope-dependent incision. Landscape simulations, based upon stream power externally forced do exhibit transition from because simulations incorporate heterogeneous erodibility. Spectral analysis erodibility extracted lithologic variation along missing accounted for substrates, white or blue k0 k1). Our results have implications way rivers record tectonic forcing while incising through patterns.

A clustering approach to infer Wikipedia contributors' profile

In online communities, recent studies have strongly improved our knowledge about the different types or profiles of contributors, from casual to very involved ones, through focused people. However they do so by using very complex methodologies (qualitative-quantitative mix, with a high workload to manually codify/characterize the edits), making their replication for the practitioners limited. T...

Sediment and total phosphorous contributors in Rock River watershed.

Total phosphorous (TP) and total suspended sediment (TSS) pollution is a problem in the US Midwest and is of particular concern in the Great Lakes region where many water bodies are already eutrophic. Increases in monoculture corn planting to feed ethanol based biofuel production could exacerbate these already stressed water bodies. In this study we expand on the previous studies relating lands...

An integral approach to bedrock river profile analysis

Bedrock river profiles are often interpreted with the aid of slope–area analysis, but noisy topographic data make such interpretations challenging. We present an alternative approach based on an integration of the steady-state form of the stream power equation. The main component of this approach is a transformation of the horizontal coordinate that converts a steady-state river profile into a ...

Contributors to the Emerging Investigators

This is the first time that Lab on a Chip has put together an issue that features the younger members of the community that are potential rising stars. We often hear the opinions of supervisors and leaders in the field, but rarely do we hear the voices of students, post-docs or young researchers. Therefore we decided to elicit the opinions of these emerging investigators on issues of current co...
