ScratchThAI: A conversation-based learning support framework for computational thinking development

Abstract Computational Thinking (CT) has been formally incorporated into the National Curriculum of Thailand since 2017, where Scratch, a block-based visual programming language, widely adopted as CT learning environment for primary-level students. However, conducting hands-on coding activities in classroom caused substantial challenges including mixed-ability students same class, high student-teacher ratio and learning-hour limitation. This research proposes develops ScratchThAI conversation-based support framework computational thinking development to both teachers. More specifically, it provides experiences tailored individual needs. Students can learn concepts practice online anywhere, anytime. Moreover, through its ScratChatbot, ask concept explanations, syntax or exercises. Additional exercises may be assigned based on diagnosed difficulties particular topic provide possible timely intervention. Teachers track progress performance whole class well individuals dashboard take suitable intervention within limited school hours. Deploying several Thai schools enabled this investigate effectiveness setting. The obtained results indicated positive teacher satisfaction, better higher student engagement. Thus, contributes practical solution skill education improvement under aforementioned Thailand.
