Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Critical Port Infrastructure Components by Modelling the Soil-Wharf-Crane Interaction

چکیده

This paper aims to investigate the seismic vulnerability of key port infrastructure components by using outcomes advanced numerical analysis. For first time, best knowledge authors, a pile-supported wharf structure, soil deposits where lies, and crane typically operating on are numerically modelled as combined system. The starting point for building model is main strategic facilities at Gioia Tauro (Italy), which hub container traffic located in one most seismically active regions Mediterranean Sea. Based results obtained from two-dimensional (2D) dynamic analyses, fragility curves were developed single wharf-crane-soil A scenario-based damage assessment was then exemplified compare predictions resulting presented this work with relevant data available literature. It turns out that, besides some inevitable variations, expected percentages general agreement. As contribution work, derived might be adopted an effective tool rapid evaluation performance during development strategies risk mitigation also emergency management case earthquake.

Security Assessment Methodology for Critical Infrastructure Components

Protecting critical infrastructure assets such as telecommunications networks and energy generation and distribution facilities from cyber attacks is a major challenge. However, because security is a complex and multi-layered topic, a foundation for manufacturers to assess the security of products used in critical infrastructures is often missing. This paper describes a structured security asse...

Seismic Vulnerability assessment of concrete railway bridge using nonlinear analyses

Bridges, as an essential part of transportation system, play a special role in economy, politic and military all around the world. Serviceability of bridges is of high importance especially in emergencies, helping injured people and proportioning transportation after earthquakes. Earthquake regulation codes, normally suggest linear methods to conduct the analysis, and nonlinear analysis is bare...

Soft Soil Seismic Design Spectra Including Soil-structure Interaction

Design spectrum is known as an essential tool in earthquake engineering for calculation of maximum (design) responses in a structural system. Soil-structure interaction (SSI), as a phenomenon of coupling of responses of a structure and its underlying soil, was explored after introduction of design spectra and has not been taken into account in developing a design spectrum traditionally. To cons...

Seismic Damage Assessment of RC Buildings Subjected to the Rotational Ground Motion Records Considering Soil-Structure Interaction

The significance of the seismic rotational components have been overlooked in the seismic evaluation of structural behavior. As researchers have measured seismic components more accurately using sensitive rotational velocity sensor, it was observed that the magnitude of rotational components is considerable and could not be neglected. Hence, some parts of seismic damage or failure of structures...

Vulnerability Assessment of Critical Infrastructures

The welfare and security of modern nations rely on the continuous production and distribution of a number of essential goods (e.g. water, energy, data), and services (e.g. banking, health care), by large scale, man-made, networked systems, called infrastructures, mostly spanning long distances, and privately owned or operated. Such infrastructures are termed critical, as any incapacity or destr...
