Seismotectonics of Andaman-Sumatra Region: Seismic Quiescence and B Value as Possible Precursors

چکیده

Objectives: a) To analyze the long-term seismicity and understand potential of seismic quiescence study to use it as a reliable precursor b) estimate B value variation in earthquake seismically active region. Methods: The present analyses pattern from Andaman- Sumatra region for period 1964 2018. area has been divided into epicentral blocks. Earthquakes preceding succeeding major with different phases have studied carefully. All periods are characterized by high b values shocks low value. Main shock events each block (Q1, Q2 Q3) identified analyzed. Findings: suggests that there is generally approximately 6-12 years gap between earthquakes. There 28 before stature Dec 26, 2004 mega earthquake, suggesting long term leads great also proposes 20 60N latitudes shows which may lead near future. A thorough analysis can be used an precursor, though limitations. latest post after greater 2005, yield impending event 6.5 M or even greater. Novelty: deals studies one most important tectonic zone. Extensive 54 Years data done scope using prediction earthquakes examined. periodicity quantify precursors. Though various statistical attempted this zone, methodology adopted here proved methods check possible applied other areas well. Keywords: Seismicity; Andaman-Sumatra; Seismic quiescence; B-value; Precursors

Seismotectonics Considered Artificial Neural Network Earthquake Predic- tion in Northeast Seismic Region of China

It is well known that earthquakes are a regional event, strongly controlled by local geological structures and circumstances. Reducing the research area can reduce the influence of other irrelevant seismotectonics. A new sub regiondividing scheme, considering the seismotectonics influence, was applied for the artificial neural network (ANN) earthquake prediction model in the northeast seismic r...

Possible chemical modification of oceanic lithosphere by hotspot magmatism: Seismic evidence from the junction of Ninetyeast Ridge and the Sumatra–Andaman arc

Tomograms of the upper mantle, which represent perturbations in P-wave, shear wave speed, and bulk-sound speed, image the Indo-Australian plate subducting beneath the Eurasian plate along the Sumatra–Andaman arc. The detailed images of the subducting slab are well constrained by the large number of intermediate depth earthquakes and moderate seismic station coverage along the entire Indonesian–...

Studies on Tiny and Huge Seismic Sources Using Long Period Surface Waves: from the Hum to 2004 Sumatra-andaman Earthquake

Studies on tiny and huge seismic sources using long period surface waves: From the hum to 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake. Abstract Studies on tiny and huge seismic sources using long period surface waves: From the hum to 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake. We study the source processes of two extreme cases, the hum of the Earth and the 2004 great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake, by using long period s...

Rupture process of the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake.

The 26 December 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake initiated slowly, with small slip and a slow rupture speed for the first 40 to 60 seconds. Then the rupture expanded at a speed of about 2.5 kilometers per second toward the north northwest, extending 1200 to 1300 kilometers along the Andaman trough. Peak displacements reached approximately 15 meters along a 600-kilometer segment of the plate boun...

Structural context of the great Sumatra-Andaman Islands earthquake

[1] A new three-dimensional seismic model and relocated regional seismicity are used to illuminate the great Sumatra-Andaman Islands earthquake of December 26, 2004. The earthquake initiated where the incoming Indian Plate lithosphere is warmest and the dip of the WadatiBenioff zone is least steep along the subduction zone extending from the Andaman Trench to the Java Trench. Anomalously high t...
