Serviceability performance of buildings founded on rubber–soil mixtures for geotechnical seismic isolation

چکیده
Base isolation is a low-damage seismic design strategy that can be used for constructing resilient structures. Geotechnical (GSI) new category of emerging base techniques has attracted global interest in the past decade. Research on GSI based rubber-soil mixtures (RSM) focused structural performance under earthquake actions, whilst there are concerns over serviceability limit states (SLS) requirements relation to (i) human comfort strong winds and (ii) ground settlement gravity, which may induce cracking durability issues This article presents first study buildings constructed with GSI-RSM system. The finite element model coupled soil-foundation-structure system been validated by data recorded from geotechnical centrifuge testing. numerical estimates have also compared analytical predictions. It concluded satisfactorily fulfill SLS requirements.

Serviceability of Suction Caisson Founded Offshore Structures
Suction caissons have recently been considered as a cost effective alternative to conventional foundations for offshore met-masts and wind turbines. Such foundation arrangements are suitable for applications within water depths of 20-30m. Most offshore structures have stringent serviceability limit states imposed on their design dictating the allowable structural deflections and accumulated rot...
متن کاملMulti-axial Active Isolation for Seismic Protection of Buildings
Structural control technology has been widely accepted as an effective means for the protection of structures against seismic hazards. Passive base isolation is one of the common structural control techniques used to enhance the performance of structures subjected to severe earthquake excitations. Isolation bearings employed at the base of a structure naturally increase its flexibility, but con...

Summary In this study, the seismic performance of hexagrid structures which are composed of horizontal and vertical hexagrid by using a transitional story, has been investigated. To this end, 10 models of 50-story hexagrid structures were designed. 9 models with horizontal hexagrid cells which transited to vertical cells using a transitional story, and a model of completely horizontal hexagrid ...

First in this paper, the guidelines of diagnosis for the seismic performance of traditional timber buildings are introduced which are under development in a committee of the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan. Next, the evaluation method of seismic performance proposed in the diagnosis is summarized. Next, as calculation examples, the lateral loaddisplacement relationships of five temple buil...
متن کاملSeismic Performance of Torsionally Stiff and Flexible Single Story Buildings Designed Based on Iranian Seismic Code(Standard 2800)
This paper examines differences in performances of a range of torsionally stiff and flexible single story buildings designed with the provisions of Iranian Standard 2800. Seismic nonlinear dynamic time history behavior of eight building models subjected to seven horizontal bi-directional design spectra compatible ground motions are investigated. These models cover a wide range of very torsional...
