Shallow Bathymetry from Multiple Sentinel 2 Images via the Joint Estimation of Wave Celerity and Wavelength

In this study, we present a new method called BathySent to retrieve shallow bathymetry from space that is based on the joint measurement of ocean wave celerity (c) and wavelength (λ). We developed work with Sentinel 2 data, exploiting time lag between two spectral bands, acquired quasi-simultaneously, single satellite dataset. Our was linear dispersion law, which related water depth wavelength: when less than about half dominant wavelength, decreased due decreasing (h) as waves propagated towards coast. Instead using best weighted (c,λ) fit relation h, proposed solving for each pair find multiple h-values within same resolution cell. Then, calculated averaged h-value To improve precision final bathymetric map, stacked values N-different datasets study area different dates. first tested algorithm set images representing simulated waves, then applied it real data obtained our area, Gâvres peninsula (France, 47°,67 lat.; −3°35 lon.). A comparison in situ yielded good results synthetic (r2 = 0.9) promising 0.7) 0–16 m zone.
