Orthogonality of Zernike Polynomials
Zernike polynomials are an orthogonal set over a unit circle and are often used to represent surface distortions from FEA analyses. There are several reasons why these coefficients may lose their orthogonality in an FEA analysis. The effects, their importance, and techniques for identifying and improving orthogonality are discussed. Alternative representations are presented.
متن کاملDemonstration of an optimised focal field with long focal depth and high transmission obtained with the Extended Nijboer-Zernike theory.
In several optical systems, a specific Point Spread Function (PSF) needs to be generated. This can be achieved by shaping the complex field at the pupil. The Extended Nijboer-Zernike (ENZ) theory relates complex Zernike modes on the pupil directly to functions in the focal region. In this paper, we introduce a method to engineer a PSF using the ENZ theory. In particular, we present an optimizat...
متن کاملQuaternion Zernike spherical polynomials
Abstract. Over the past few years considerable attention has been given to the role played by the Zernike polynomials (ZPs) in many di↵erent fields of geometrical optics, optical engineering, and astronomy. The ZPs and their applications to corneal surface modeling played a key role in this development. These polynomials are a complete set of orthogonal functions over the unit circle and are co...
متن کاملCharacterizing 2D Flow Fields with Zernike Polynomials
To identify the content of motion sequences such as gestures and video sequences, we propose a compact representation of flow fields using a basis of complex Zernike polynomials. Moments derived from projection of these polynomials have been used in recognition. Previously, local descriptions learned from examples, or specified a priori, have been used to identify local flow events. Affine expa...
متن کاملCoherent Field Phase Retrieval Using a Phase Zernike Filter
Aberrations of the coherent wavefront are analyzed using a phase Zernike filter. Developed iterative methods allow us to design a filter that decomposes the analyzed light field into a set of diffraction orders with amplitudes proportional to the circular Zernike polynomials. We also apply the algorithm to the calculation of the light field phase from measurements of the modules of decompositio...
