Shared Spaces, Practices And Mobilities: Pet–Human Life in Modern Finnish Homes

In this interdisciplinary article, we examine multispecies homes in modernizing Finnish society. We focus on two illustrative phases of pet culture: cats and dogs bourgeois rural from the late 19th century to early 20th as well international dog rescue 21st century. make visible analyze continuities pet–human relationality petness by focusing everyday practices, spaces mobilities. The article draws recent discussions human–animal at intersections fields animal history, geography studies. Our analysis shows that pets have studied not been passive objects or simply obeyed rules set humans. Instead, co-living involves shared agency situational practices take into account individual human creative ways which they shape space.
