Sheep reproductive management

چکیده
Objective: To describe some reproductive management programs that allow increasing the productive efficiency of ewes. Design/methodology/approach: Description main hormones and their application in sheep protocols. The subjects are reviewed based on academic references as well use protocols at Sheep Goat Reproduction Laboratory Colegio de Postgraduados, Mexico. Results: Hormones, socio-sexual strategies, techniques tools improve ewes during season seasonal anestrus. Study limitations/implications: basic mostly available, however, they still have room for improvement, therefore, multiple efforts involving all participants, such primary sector, public private institutions, required. Findings/conclusions: Reproductive is an important pillar animal production; thus its implementation fundamental to a herd

Genetic parameters of reproductive traits in sheep
Reproductive traits from 7642 ewes were recorded from 1975 to 1983. The ewes were of five breeds (Dorset (D), Finnsheep (F), Rambouillet (R), Suffolk (S) and Targhee (T)) and two composite lines [C1 (1=2F þ 1=4R þ 1=4D) and C2 (1=2F þ 1=4S þ 1=4T)]. Genetic parameters were estimated for six basic and seven composite traits. The basic traits were conception rate (CR), total number of lamb born (...
متن کاملSalt intake and reproductive function in sheep.
Producers have the possibility to combat human-induced dryland salinity by planting salt-tolerant plants such as saltbush. Saltbush has the potential to be used as a source of food for livestock at a time and place where pasture is not viable. However, saltbush contains high concentrations of sodium chloride salt and some other anti-nutritional factors that have the potential to affect feed and...
متن کاملImmunity in the female sheep reproductive tract.
Immune surveillance in the female reproductive tract is dependent on the interplay of many factors that include the expression of pattern recognition receptors on epithelial cells, resident leukocyte populations and hormones, none of which are uniform. The lower reproductive tract must accommodate the presence of commensal organisms whereas the upper reproductive tract is sterile. However, the ...
متن کاملAssociations between housing and management factors and reproductive performance in 327 Norwegian sheep flocks
BACKGROUND Housing sheep in insulated, warm buildings, which is common in Norway, involves high buildings costs, but has not been reported to improve health and performance. Few studies have dealt with the association between housing and management and reproductive performance.Data on housing and management during the indoor period from a questionnaire were merged with herd level data from the ...
متن کاملImproving sheep feedlot management
This paper summarises six studies undertaken by the Sheep CRC to elucidate certain aspects of confinement feeding of sheep. A review of confinement feeding highlighted the variability of growth rate and feed conversion of sheep and revealed that little is known about the use of sorghum for feeding sheep. The review indicated that the main factors responsible for variation of growth rate and fee...
