Ship evacuation simulation using a game engine: Modelling, testing and validation

The topic of evacuation analysis plays an important role in the maritime field, because its natural link to safety and also relevant SOLAS requirements. In this context, paper focuses on description, testing validation agent-based mathematical model. As primary goal, model has been developed targeting a use simulations using immersive virtual reality, with possibility real-time human participation. At same time, is suitable for standard simulations. starting from existing social force models introducing series improvements, modifications, new modelling, adaptations. described detail, providing discussing all adopted parameters. choice game engine as development environment discussed, highlighting benefits limitations. Results IMO test cases, validations experimental data, comparisons FDS+Evac are presented. A more realistic case, two-cabin-deck geometry presented, together corresponding simulation results. Particular attention paid post-processing reporting results Monte Carlo simulations, order properly reflect, quantify emphasize underlying aleatory uncertainty.
