Simulation, Fabrication and Testing of UAV Composite Landing Gear

This study concerns the use of fused filament fabrication technique to create models landing gear an unmanned aircraft. These components are made with short fibers (chopped fibers) carbon fiber and fiberglass. In order identify material high mechanical strength, designed were subjected a finite element analysis three-point bending test, followed by microscopic examination tested components. Following comparative study, both results test provided similar results, relative error 2%, which is acceptable in aviation field. After analyzing all it was found that fiber-reinforced polymer has highest performance, strength 1455 MPa. Among fabricated gears, one best performance polyethylene terephthalate fiber, had 118 Microscopic models, manufactured process, indicated typical defects composite filaments: voids interlayer voids.
