Simulation of Crack Pattern Formation Due to Shrinkage in a Drying Material

Crack patterns observed in nature have attracted the interest of researchers various fields, and mechanism pattern formation has been investigated. However, phenomenon is very complicated, many factors affect process. Therefore, we are motivated to construct a general simulation code with simple algorithm. In this study, crack due shrinkage caused by drying wet material was simulated. The process simplified as follows: tensile force generated model, when tension exceeds critical value. forces x y directions independently evaluated. A propagates perpendicular until it reaches another or boundary. Based on modeling, simulations two-dimensional square domain were performed. Consequently, cross-divided generated.
