Simultaneous Beam Forming and Focusing Using a Checkerboard Anisotropic Surface

A novel design method of simultaneous beam forming and focusing using a checkerboard anisotropic surface is proposed verified in this paper. The multibeam control regardless far near regions can easily be achieved through rearrangement the structure. unit cell utilized consists two identical metallic structures divided by dielectric material. When EM wave with circular polarization (CP) incident on cell, maximum transmission phase variation 360 degrees half rotation cell. microstrip patch antenna trimmed corners used to launch CP distance between about 2 wavelengths considering optimized spillover taper efficiencies. After designing each for focusing, cells are rearranged form checkerboard. feasibility confirmed full-wave simulation measurement angle 30 point 60 mm away from center at 5.8 GHz. focal length simulated measured 28 65 mm, respectively.
