Soft Tissue Deformation Modeling in the Procedure of Needle Insertion: A Kriging-Based Method

چکیده

Abstract The simulation and planning system (SPS) requires accurate real-time feedback regarding the deformation of soft tissues during needle insertion procedure. Traditional mechanical-based models such as finite element method (FEM) are widely used to compute deformations tissue. However, it is difficult for FEM or other methods find a balance between an acceptable image fidelity due their complex material properties, geometries interaction mechanisms. In this paper, Kriging-based applied model tissue strike accuracy efficiency feedback. Four combinations regression correlation functions compared ability predict maximum ten characteristic markers at fixed depth. results suggest that first order function with Gaussian can best fit ground truth. functional response utilized dynamic series depths. feasibility verified by investigating adaptation step variations. Compared truth (FE) results, residual less than 0.92 mm in Y direction 0.31 X direction. Kriging metamodel provides target obstacle SPS.

Modeling and Measuring the Dynamic 3D Effects of Needle Insertion in Soft Tissue

Models that predict soft tissue deformation during needle insertion could improve the accuracy of needle based medical procedures. In an effort to establish a method for defining and validating such models, we present an experimental setup including hardware and software for recording and measuring the time-dependent, 3D deformation that occurs as a needle is inserted into soft material. Algori...

Modeling and Simulation of Soft Tissue Deformation

A stable and accurate deformable model to simulate the deformation of soft tissues is a challenging area of research. This paper describes a soft tissue simulation method that can deform multiple organs synchronously and interact with virtual surgical instruments accurately. The model we used in our method is a multi-organ system by point masses and springs. The organs that anatomically connect...

A Novel Method for Simulating Soft Tissue Deformation

This paper describes a novel method for simulating soft tissue deformation with image-based rendering. It is based on the association of depth map with colour texture and the incorporation of microsurface details to generate photo-realistic images representing soft tissue deformations. In a pre-processing step, the depth map describing the surface is separated into two distributions correspondi...

Needle Deflection during Insertion into Soft Tissue Based on Virtual Spring Model

Needle insertion is the most common procedure of minimally invasive interventions. During insertion into a soft tissue, the needle with bevel tip can deflect due to the asymmetric forces acting on the tip of the needle. In this paper, a mechanics-based model is developed to predict the needle deflection. In the model, the needle is considered as a cantilever beam supported by a series of nonlin...
