Some non-local problems with nonlinear diffusion
In this paper we study different problems with nonlinear diffusion and non-local terms, some of them arising in population dynamics. We are able to give a complete description of the set of positive solutions and their stability. For that we employ a fixed point argument for the existence and uniqueness or multiplicity results and the study of singular eigenvalue problems for stability.
متن کاملSome theoretical open problems in data mining
This document contains a selection of open problems provided by participants of the data mining PhD reading seminar at the IT University of Copenhagen in fall 2009. It is not intended to showcase the “most significant” open problems in the field, but merely problems found interesting by the participants. In particular, the theoretical angle of the seminar is reflected. 1 Frequent itemsets — a r...
متن کاملAlgorithms for some graph theoretical optimization problems
This thesis is situated in the field of combinatorial optimization. More specifically, we focus on solution methods for solving a number of graphtheoretical optimization problems. First we give a short introduction to the field of integer programming and state of the art solution techniques. The remainder of this thesis can be roughly split into two parts. The first part is dedicated to the pro...
متن کاملResonant Field Enhancements from Metal Nanoparticle Arrays
Theoretical and semiempirical studies of two-dimensional (2D) metal nanoparticle arrays under periodic boundary conditions yield quantitative estimates of their electromagnetic (EM) field factors, revealing a critical relationship between particle size and interparticle spacing. A new theory based on the RLC circuit analogy has been developed to produce analytical values for EM field enhancemen...
متن کاملSome counting problems related topermutation
This paper discusses investigations of sequences of natural numbers which count the orbits of an innnite permutation group on n-sets or n-tuples. It surveys known results on the growth rates, cycle index techniques, and an interpretation as the Hilbert series of a graded algebra, with a possible application to the question of smoothness of growth. I suggest that these orbit-counting sequences a...
