Source-configured symmetry-broken hyperbolic polaritons

Abstract Polaritons are quasi-particles that combine light with matter, enabling precise control of at deep subwavelength scales. The excitation and propagation polaritons closely linked to the structural symmetries host materials, resulting in symmetrical polariton high-symmetry materials. However, low-symmetry crystals, symmetry-broken exist, exhibiting enhanced directionality for nanoscale manipulation steering. Here, we theoretically propose experimentally demonstrate existence polaritons, hyperbolic dispersion, a crystal. We show an optical disk-antenna positioned on crystal surface can act as in-plane polarized source, dynamic tailoring asymmetry over broad frequency range. Additionally, provide intuitive analysis model predicts condition under which asymmetric polaritonic behavior is maximized, corroborated by our simulations experiments. Our results be conveniently configured, independent structure symmetry providing tuning knob response anisotropy nanophotonic applications.
