Southeast Asian States’ Approaches to Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution

This paper conducts a comparative analysis of three cases - Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam to examine the distinctive features Southeast Asian states’ involvement in peacekeeping. These provide representative insights into motivations experiences regional states that joined UN peacekeeping operations at different historical junctures: Indonesia 1950s, 1990s, 2000s. By identifying common unique aspects this engagement, authors argue nations’ approaches are deeply rooted values underpin their foreign domestic policies. Appealing these values, contribute conceptual innovations existing models, which predominantly based on Western perspectives. generalizing states, fills gap between broader publications focus practices single-country studies.
