Spawning Atlantic cod (<i>Gadus morhua</i> L.) exposed to noise from seismic airguns do not abandon their spawning site

چکیده

Abstract Seismic airgun surveys may disturb and displace fish at large ranges. If such displacement causes to abandon spawning grounds, reproductive success could be impacted. To investigate whether sound cod (Gadus morhua L.) leave their acoustic telemetry arrays were deployed on two grounds: a test reference site. From 2019 2021, 136 mature from the site 45 tagged with transmitters. Intermittent seismic shooting of 40 in.3 airguns for 1 week during periods 2020–2021 resulted in fluctuating exposure levels (SEL) site, comparable full-scale industrial survey 5–&amp;gt;40 km away. Residency survival analysed capture–mark–recapture models fitted detection recapture data. Departure rate varied between seasons but was similar sites. Neither nor departure significantly differed baseline periods. The results indicated that received SEL up ∼145 dB re µPa2 s, occurring several kilometres away, did not grounds.

Changes in Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua L.) sperm quality during the spawning season

The biology of cod reproduction is well described in the scientific literature. However, sperm biology and spermatozoa management are poorly studied in this species. Because of its recent farming expansion, a better knowledge of cod gametes is becoming especially useful. This work aimed at establishing tools to study sperm biology in cod, and also investigated the existence of changes in cod sp...

Dual Annual Spawning Races in Atlantic Sturgeon

Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus, Acipenseridae) populations in the United States were listed as either endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 2012. Because of the endangered/threatened status, a better understanding of Atlantic sturgeon life-history behavior and habitat use is important for effective management. It has been widely documented that Atlanti...

Energy use in spawning Atlantic salmon

We studied some of the factors that might influence energy use in spawning Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Single females were placed into an experimental channel with either one or three males, after which spawning was monitored continuously. Male status was confirmed using genetic parentage analysis. Daily fat loss was monitored with the Torry Fish Fatmeter and validated through biochemical an...

Project Title : Genetic Identification of Atlantic Cod Spawning Stocks in U . S . Waters

In this collaborative research project, we formed a partnership of commercial fisherman and scientists from UNH and NYU to investigate stock definitions for Atlantic cod using DNA markers. Cod in U.S. waters are currently managed as two stocks: 1) a Gulf of Maine stock and 2) a Georges Bank and south stock. This designation is decades old and warrants reevaluation in light of concerns that fish...
