Spin texture in doped Mott insulators with spin-orbit coupling

A hole injected into a Mott insulator will gain an internal structure as recently identified by exact numerics, which is characterized nontrivial quantum number whose nature of central importance in understanding the physics. In this work, we show that spin texture associated with such degree freedom can explicitly manifest after degeneracy lifted \emph{weak} Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC). It described emergent angular momentum $J_{z}=\pm3/2$ shown both diagonalization (ED) and variational Monte Carlo (VMC) calculations, are good agreement each other at finite size. particular, generally present composite even high excited energies, corresponding space, extending deep inside Brillouin zone, be directly probed spin-polarized angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). This contrast to Landau quasiparticle under SOC, induced SOC not protected once energy larger than weak strength, away from Fermi energy.
