Stable Water Isotope Assessment of Tundra Wetland Hydrology as a Potential Source of Arctic Riverine Dissolved Organic Carbon in the Indigirka River Lowland, Northeastern Siberia

چکیده

Arctic tundra wetlands may be an important source of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in rivers and the Ocean under global warming. We investigated stable water isotopes DOC concentration wetlands, tributaries, mainstream at lower reaches Indigirka River northeastern Siberia during summers 2010–2014 to assess complex hydrology role as sources riverine DOC. The had higher values δ 18 O than tributaries River. A relationship between two parameters was observed mainstream, suggesting can a for through tributaries. combined temporal variations indicate flowed into relatively high river-level periods summer, whereas downstream could discharged low periods. minor fraction (7–13%) wetland degraded 40 days dark incubation. Overall, potentially provide less biodegradable river costal ecosystem periods—from late summer autumn.

Dissolved organic carbon lability and stable isotope shifts during microbial decomposition in a tropical river system

A significant amount of carbon is transported to the ocean as dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in rivers. During transport, it can be transformed through microbial consumption and photochemical oxidation. In dark incubation experiments with water from the Tana River, Kenya, we examined the consumption of DOC through microbial decomposition and the associated change in its carbon stable isotope co...

Modeling transport and fate of riverine dissolved organic carbon in the Arctic Ocean

[1] The spatial distribution and fate of riverine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the Arctic may be significant for the regional carbon cycle but are difficult to fully characterize using the sparse observations alone. Numerical models of the circulation and biogeochemical cycles of the region can help to interpret and extrapolate the data and may ultimately be applied in global change sensit...

The exchange of carbon dioxide between wet arctic tundra and the atmosphere at the Lena River Delta, Northern Siberia

The exchange fluxes of carbon dioxide between wet arctic polygonal tundra and the atmosphere were investigated by the micrometeorological eddy covariance method. The investigation site was situated in the centre of the Lena River Delta in Northern Siberia (7222 N, 12630 E). The study region is characterized by a polar and distinctly continental climate, very cold and ice-rich permafrost and its...
