چکیده
Atrial septal defects (ASDs) in adults and adolescents are not uncommon. Surgical ASD closure through a standard median sternotomy (SMS) has become less attractive approach favor of minimally invasive techniques, especially young female patients.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery versus Conventional Median Sternotomy for Atrial Septal Defect Closure
BACKGROUND Median sternotomy is the standard approach for atrial septal defect (ASD) closure. However, minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) has been introduced at many centers in adult/grown-up congenital heart patients. We retrospectively reviewed the results of right anterolateral thoracotomy compared with conventional median sternotomy (CMS) for ASD closure at Seoul National University ...
متن کاملLung herniation after minimally invasive atrial-septal-defect closure.
A 50-year old patient presented with chronic tussive irritation and chest pain after minimally invasive atrial septal defect (ASD) repair. In the computed tomography (CT) scan, the lung was found to have herniated (Fig. 1a and b). The defect in the chest wall was repaired surgically (Fig. 2). Lung herniation is a rare complication observed more frequently with the advent of minimally invasive c...
متن کاملPneumopericardium after Minimally Invasive Atrial Septal Defect Closure
Minimally invasive atrial septal defect (ASD) closure is a commonly performed cardiac surgical procedure and has good outcome. We report an interesting chest X-ray showing pneumopericardium in a patient who underwent ASD closure using a minimally invasive approach.
متن کاملMitral valve and atrial septal defect surgery: minimally invasive or sternotomy approach.
BACKGROUND To decrease the surgical trauma in heart procedures, minimally invasive (MI) techniques were alternatively introduced. OBJECTIVE To compare MI surgical access with median sternotomy (MS) for the treatment of mitral valve (MV) disease and atrial septal defect (ASD). METHODS Forty patients underwent surgery for correction of MV disease or ASD. Patients were divided into group A (GA...
متن کاملAtrial Septal Defect Closure: Comparison of Vertical Axillary Minithoracotomy and Median Sternotomy
BACKGROUND This study aims to evaluate whether or not the method of right vertical axillary minithoracotomy (RVAM) is preferable to and as reliable as conventional sternotomy surgery, and also assesses its cosmetic results. METHODS Thirty-three patients (7 males, 26 females) with atrial septal defect were admitted to the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic of Cukurova University from December 2005 ...
